The Boatyard Project

The Prints

Printing is the collaborative part of the process, so finding the right partner was paramount. I tested several worthy artisans before selecting Anthony Accardi of Green Rhino. A master, Anthony has printed for the most demanding artists and photographers for over 25 years. His work can be found in major museums, galleries and private collections throughout the world.

Anthony says,“A fine print should be a marriage of material and subject.” The right paper plays an integral role in that union. For this project we chose Museo Max, a 100% cotton rag paper that does not use optical brighteners, which can fade over time. The paper has a subtle, velvet surface, ideal for expressing the rich textural quality of my subjects. It is acid free and archival to Library of Congress standards, so will last for generations.

Film was chosen as the acquisition medium for its color fidelity, contrast, and its rendering of nuance. By starting with a fine grained film and drum scanning the selected images, the strongest properties of both analog and digital media were leveraged. High resolution drum scans are unparalleled for capturing the richness and detail in film. The images were scanned full frame, then the color and contrast carefully balanced, respecting the original exposures. Final renderings were made with pigment based inks, which are valued for their lightfastness and stunningly large color gamut. http://greenrhinoinc.com/shapeimage_2_link_0
